West Coast Swing is generally thought to have originated from the Lindyhop on the West Coast of the US. It is more upright than Lindy and is danced in a slot, with the man making way for the lady, who generally never moves off the slot. It is commonly danced to medium paced rhythm and blues, although it can be danced to slow Blues, generally with lots of improvisation and syncopations, and also to rock and chart hits.
The footwork patterns of WCS can be considered to be very similar to Lindyhop but done in a different pattern.
While Lindyhop could be considered to be energetic and fun, WCS styling is slinky, smooth and sexy.
